01 Jun Summer Learning
We love summer at SMMS! We continue learning and growing during these warm summer months. This summer, we are excited to learn about bugs, musical instruments and islands. We will also cook and try new foods during our “Restaurant Week”. Mad Science is going to visit during our “Exploding Science” week – what happens when you mix baking soda and vinegar…. let’s find out together!
Who said you brain takes a break during the summer? We are going to learn a new language! At our school, we are so fortunate to have teachers and families that speak many different languages, and who are willing to teach our students a few important words and phrases. Summer school is the perfect combination of learning and fun!
Plan on taking the summer off? Keep your child’s mind working with these ideas:
- Join a summer reading program at your local library. Even if your child is too young to read, you can read the books together.
- Go on a nature hike! Where better to learn than outside in nature. Explore different textures, plants and animals.
- Keep your child’s body healthy by exercising. Go for a bike ride or learn a new sport. Remember, a healthy body makes a healthy mind.
- Explore water! Children love to play in the water (except, of course, when it’s time to take a bath). Visit your neighborhood pool, or just set up a wading pool in your backyard. Maybe even toss in some household items – liquid soap, funnels, bowls, a strainer – and see what happens.
Just because the weather is hot, doesn’t mean the learning stops!
