Our Story

Sugar Mill Montessori School was established in 1994 with the aim of providing a nurturing and academically enriching environment for young children.  Owner, Kay Challa, a Montessori Certified Early Childhood and Elementary teacher, opened SMMS with just one classroom and five students. The school now has eight classrooms and has touched the lives of thousands of students.

25 Years of
Experience

Step into our school, and you will find a caring, educational environment with Montessori-credentialed teachers that provide individualized instruction to help each child reach their full potential.
SMMS is truly a “home away from home”. Daughter Shara, also Montessori certified, joined the family-business after graduating from college. Her two children are now students at the school. Together the mother-daughter team opened Meadow Montessori School in Richmond, TX.
